The verdict

Whistler Blackcomb is one lift-linked ski area across two mountains, joined by the Peak 2 Peak Gondola and sold on a single ticket. The operator counts 8,171 skiable acres and over 200 marked runs; our own routing measurement finds one dominant connected sector of 307.5 km of piste and 86.5 km of lift line between 651 and 2,372 m, plus eight small unconnected fragments under 1 km each, and a 14.1 km longest continuous descent, the longest recorded on this site so far. It is marketed, and generally accepted, as the largest ski area in North America. The scale comes with North America's busiest lift lines, a coastal climate that can turn to rain at the 675 m village base while the alpine stays cold, and, on a peak day, some of the continent's highest lift-ticket prices.1234

Goes well for

  • Skiers and riders who want scale without a second ticket: 16 named alpine bowls (Symphony, Harmony, West Bowl and more) and 3 glaciers across both mountains, all on one ticket and joined by the Peak 2 Peak Gondola.
  • A single long run rather than laps: our own measurement finds a 14.1 km longest continuous descent with 1,709 m of vertical, and a length-weighted 69% of the network faces north, northeast or northwest, both the highest figures recorded on this site so far.
  • A trip built around more than skiing: Whistler Village sits at the base with year-round dining and shopping, and the Whistler Sliding Centre from the 2010 Winter Olympics still runs public bobsled and skeleton rides a short drive from the lifts.

Goes badly for

  • Budget skiers: Whistler Blackcomb's Epic Pass is priced in US dollars (US$1,051 for 2025/26) rather than Canadian, and single-day tickets are sold on the same fully dynamic, date-based scale as every other Vail Resorts mountain, with no fixed adult day rate published anywhere on the operator's own site.
  • Anyone hoping to avoid crowds: Whistler Blackcomb is generally cited as North America's busiest ski resort, drawing an estimated 2 to 3 million visitor days a year, and our own measurement finds a full-capacity load of 127 skiers per piste km, one of the higher figures recorded on this site.
  • Skiers who assume mountain-top snow means village snow: the 675 m base sits low enough, and close enough to the Pacific, that a warm system can put rain in Whistler Village while it snows in the alpine a few hundred vertical metres above; check the freezing level, not just the forecast.

The operator's own mountain-info page gives Whistler Mountain's true summit as 2,182 m (7,160 ft) and Blackcomb Mountain's true summit as 2,444 m (8,019 ft), but states the highest point either mountain's lifts actually reach is 2,284 m (7,497 ft), on Blackcomb; that lift-served figure is used here as top_m; skiers can ride to within a short hike of Blackcomb's true summit but not to the peak itself, which sits inside permanently closed terrain on the operator's own trail map. The resort's current trail map separately labels the Horstman Hut, at the top of the Showcase T-bar, at 2,284 m (7,494 ft), matching the operator's figure almost exactly. Village base is 675 m at Whistler Village, which is what the operator and skiresort.com both use for the marketed 1,609 m vertical; Creekside, the resort's other valley base, sits slightly lower at 653 m, which would put the vertical at 1,631 m measured from the true lowest skiable point. Our own routing graph's highest node reaches 2,372 m, above every lift-top figure reported above; that is consistent with short hike-to glacier terrain above the Showcase T-bar rather than an error in either figure, and we flag the gap rather than silently preferring one number over another.

Marketed vs measuredWhistler Blackcomb publishes its terrain in acres, not piste kilometres, and by a four-tier system rather than the three-tier easy/intermediate/difficult split used elsewhere on this page: the operator's own count is 8,171 skiable acres across more than 200 marked runs, split 20% easiest, 35% more difficult, 25% most difficult and 20% experts only. Folding the operator's own two harder tiers together gives 45% advanced terrain, a noticeably harder picture than the three-tier figures used for the required fields above. Those come from skiresort.com's independent conversion to 200 km, split 40 km easy, 110 km intermediate and 50 km difficult (20%/55%/25%), a split much closer to the resort's own beginner share but a far gentler middle band than the operator's own acreage story. Our own measurement of the OpenStreetMap network finds 309.9 km of marked piste across the whole ingested graph, well above skiresort.com's 200 km; web.sector_breakdown attributes 307.5 km of that to one dominant connected sector spanning both mountains, with the remainder spread across eight fragments of under 1 km each that the graph does not connect to the main network. The gap to skiresort.com's figure is plausible given how much of Whistler Blackcomb's advanced terrain is open alpine bowl rather than a small number of named runs, which OpenStreetMap tends to map as many short piste segments.

Three lift counts are in circulation and none of them agree. The operator's own mountain-info page states 36 lifts total, 4 gondolas, 15 detachable-grip (high-speed) chairlifts, 3 fixed-grip chairlifts, 2 T-bars and 11 carpets, plus the end-stations of the Peak 2 Peak Gondola; that detailed breakdown by itself sums to 35, so the by_type count here folds the Peak 2 Peak in as a fifth gondola to reach the operator's own stated total of 36. The resort's own current trail map instead prints 34 in its legend, and skiresort.com counts 27 (9 gondola/cable lifts and 17 chairlifts plus 1 other). The operator's own count is used here since it is both the most detailed and the primary source for this figure. The Showcase T-bar, one of the two T-bars in the operator's count, was under construction toward replacement by a fixed-grip quad chairlift as of 2026, as Blackcomb Glacier's recession made the existing lift increasingly unreliable.1

Whistler Blackcomb sells single-day lift tickets on the same fully dynamic, date-based pricing as every other Vail Resorts mountain, with no fixed adult day-ticket rate published anywhere on the operator's own site; prices move with demand and the booking date rather than a published rack rate. The operator's own 2025/26 pricing announcement quotes its multi-day Whistler Blackcomb Day Pass, covering 1 to 10 days, from CA$98 a day, the lowest fixed reference figure the operator itself publishes; an aggregator's cross-check for the same season put single-day walk-up pricing in a CA$150 to CA$199 range for an adult and CA$89 to CA$119 for a child, rising toward the top of that range on peak dates. A March 2018 press report of a CA$299 peak walk-up price is stale and not used here. Children aged 6 and under ski free, children 7-12 pay roughly half the adult rate, and there is no separate youth tier between child and adult. Prices are for the 2025/26 season; the operator had not published 2026/27 figures as of September 2026.

How steep is it, really

Piste colour is set by each resort under its own rules, so a red in one country is a blue in another. Measured gradient is comparable everywhere.

Two separate mountains, Whistler and Blackcomb, share one lift ticket and are joined at the alpine by the Peak 2 Peak Gondola. Our own routing graph finds one dominant connected sector spanning both mountains, 307.5 km of piste and 86.5 km of lift line between 651 and 2,372 m, plus eight small fragments under 1 km each that the graph does not connect to the main network; a single piste-km total for this page describes that one linked area.

One ticket, joined by a gondola between the summits

The Peak 2 Peak Gondola, opened December 12, 2008, links the alpine of Whistler and Blackcomb across 4.4 km, with an unsupported span of 3.02 km between its two central towers and a maximum height of 436 m above the Fitzsimmons Creek valley floor, both said to be world records for a lift of its kind when built. Each of its 28 cabins, two with glass floor panels, carries up to 28 passengers for an 11-minute crossing. Before it opened, moving between the two mountains without descending to the village meant a longer route through the base; our own measurement confirms the two mountains now form a single connected network rather than two separate ski areas sold on one ticket.563

Eight bowls, three glaciers, and more terrain than the marketed split alone suggests

The operator counts 16 alpine bowls and 3 glaciers across the two mountains' 8,171 skiable acres, graded 20% easiest, 35% more difficult, 25% most difficult and 20% experts only by its own four-tier system. Converted to piste kilometres by skiresort.com, that becomes 200 km split 40/110/50 easy/intermediate/difficult; our own measurement of the OpenStreetMap network for the connected sector finds 307.5 km, well above skiresort.com's figure, consistent with how much of the terrain here is open bowl skiing rather than a small number of named runs.123

What our own measurement finds

Our own routing graph puts the longest continuous descent, the longest run of linked pistes that never rides a lift, at 14.1 km with 1,709 m of vertical, the longest recorded on this site so far; 69% of the network faces north, northeast or northwest, and the length-weighted average gradient is 24%. The lift network is efficient by the same measurement: 21 minutes riding lifts for every hour spent descending, among the lowest ratios recorded here, which reflects how much of the network runs on high-speed detachable lifts rather than fixed-grip chairs or T-bars. Only 24% of the piste network is reachable from the base without descending something harder than an easy run, and at full lift capacity our measurement finds a load of 127 skiers per piste km, a genuine crowding signal alongside the resort's own reputation as North America's busiest.3

Blackcomb's glacier terrain, and a receding lift

Blackcomb's Horstman and Blackcomb glaciers once supported lift-served summer skiing; the Horstman T-bar that gave access to it was closed and dismantled in 2020 as the glacier receded. The Showcase T-bar, which serves the Blackcomb Glacier's high alpine bowls and the 2,284 m Horstman Hut, was itself under construction toward replacement by a fixed-grip quad chairlift as of 2026, a project the operator has framed around improving reliability as the glacier continues to change shape underneath the lift line.54

Symphony: the newest alpine expansion

The Symphony Express high-speed quad opened for the 2006/07 season, adding roughly 1,000 acres of high-alpine terrain in what had been the Piccolo Peak and Symphony Basin backcountry, on the far side of Whistler Mountain from the village. The terrain mixes steep alpine bowls with cruising groomers and gladed sections, and the project won a National Ski Areas Association award for how the lift and its runs were routed around wildlife habitat.75

Coastal snow: heavy totals, and a base that can see rain

The operator's own figures put average annual snowfall at 10.9 m over the past 10 years, among the heaviest of any major resort in North America, delivered by storms off the Pacific rather than a continental snowpack. That same coastal position means the freezing level, not just the forecast, decides what falls where: a storm can put rain in Whistler Village at 675 m while the same system drops snow a few hundred vertical metres higher, a pattern locals and repeat visitors watch for explicitly rather than trusting a single village-level forecast.89

First-timer fair Both mountains have dedicated learning zones close to their base gondolas, and the operator grades 20% of its acreage easiest, but Whistler Blackcomb is large and can be genuinely disorienting for someone who has never skied before; staying inside the marked learning zones rather than exploring is the realistic plan for a first day or two.14
Budget skier poor The Epic Pass covering Whistler Blackcomb is priced in US dollars, US$1,051 for 2025/26, which disadvantages Canadian skiers paying in a weaker currency; single-day tickets have no fixed rate and are sold on a dynamic scale that an aggregator's cross-check put as high as CA$199 for an adult on a peak date. Our own measurement also finds a full-capacity load of 127 skiers per piste km, backing up the resort's reputation for lift lines on a busy day.10113

By car

Whistler sits 120-135 km north of Vancouver on Highway 99, the Sea to Sky Highway, a drive of roughly 2 to 2.5 hours outside of storms or weekend traffic. It is the only road in; winter driving on the Sea to Sky's mountain sections calls for winter tires or chains.

By train

There is no scheduled passenger rail into Whistler. The Rocky Mountaineer's seasonal Whistler Sea to Sky Climb day-trip service, which had run on the former BC Rail line from North Vancouver, was discontinued after the 2015 season; buses and shuttles from Vancouver and YVR run the Sea to Sky Highway daily instead.

  • For a normal morning, join the base upload queue around 08:00 on weekdays and 07:45–08:00 on weekends, earlier after fresh snow.16

    A January 2026 r/skiing thread on arrival timing says lifts can start loading 15-30 minutes before the posted opening, and gives a local rule of thumb: arrive one minute earlier for every centimetre of snow reported overnight.

  • From Whistler Village, bypass a large gondola queue by uploading Fitzsimmons, then Garbanzo and Emerald or Big Red; for Blackcomb, enter the Excalibur line around 08:00.17

    A February 2026 r/Whistler thread of local pro-tips suggests this route when the Whistler Village Gondola queue is long, and separately recommends joining the Excalibur line on Blackcomb around 08:00.

  • Watch live lift status rather than waiting blindly: 7th Heaven commonly targets about 09:00, Whistler's Peak and Harmony about 09:15–09:30, and Symphony roughly 09:45–10:15.1617

    The same January and February 2026 r/Whistler threads describe weekend delayed alpine openings leaving every mid-mountain chair with 10-30 minute queues, and a full alpine closure producing waits of 10 to 60 minutes.

  • Finish lunch by 11:30 or eat after 13:00, particularly if using the Roundhouse.17

    The February 2026 r/Whistler pro-tips thread says the Roundhouse is especially unpleasant from noon to 13:00 and recommends eating beside a run, or eating early, instead.

  • Treat 14:30 as Symphony Express's hard last-chair deadline and start leaving Flute or the far side of Symphony before then.18

    An April 2026 r/Whistler thread on lift closing procedure explains the 14:30 deadline: missing last chair means hiking the rescue road toward Harmony, and the early closure lets patrol sweep the unusually extensive Symphony terrain.

  • For free day parking, use the Creekside parkade or Blackcomb Base II Lots 6–8, reaching them before roughly 07:30 on a powder day and around 08:00 on an ordinary day.1920

    November 2024 r/Whistler threads on parking say Creekside is covered and close to its own gondola, that Lots 7-8 can be muddy with a longer walk to Excalibur, and that every free option fills much sooner on powder and holiday weekends.

  • At Creekside, target the lower P3/P4 levels if you lack a reservation and verify the new season's rules before driving up.21

    A December 2025 r/Whistler thread on parking rules reports that for 2025-26, P3/P4 at Creekside were first-come-first-served, while P1/P2 required reservations until 11:00 on weekends and holiday Mondays, and P1 additionally required four occupants.

  • If staying in or near the pedestrian village, skip the rental car and choose the bus serving your actual origin and hotel.2223

    A December 2025 r/Whistler thread on buses from Vancouver favours Epic Rides for fast downtown trips, notes SkyLynx serves YVR and downtown but some departures stop at Squamish and Creekside, and an April 2024 thread on travel from Vancouver adds that Whistler Shuttle trades variable departure timing for direct hotel delivery.

  • Avoid committing to a tight Sunday-evening Vancouver or YVR connection after skiing.2416

    A February 2024 r/Whistler thread on day trips from Vancouver and a January 2026 thread both describe village traffic merging with day-trippers and returning weekend visitors on the Sea to Sky Highway; both recommend either leaving before the end-of-day exodus or building a large buffer.

  • Collect physical tickets and fitted rental equipment the afternoon before your first ski day.2526

    A March 2022 r/Whistler thread on ticket pickup says Guest Services can print passes at Creekside, Whistler Skiers Plaza or Blackcomb Base, and a February 2026 thread on rentals notes several shops permit prior-afternoon pickup; doing both the same morning can cost your place in the upload queue.

  • Use Crystal Ridge Express for repeat laps of Ridge Runner, Rock 'n' Roll and Twist 'n' Shout, adding Arthur's Choice or Outer Limits after fresh snow.2717

    A snowHeads thread on the best runs in Whistler and a February 2026 r/Whistler pro-tips thread both recommend the Crystal zone for long rolling blues and gladed skiing, adding that it often draws fewer sightseers than 7th Heaven.

  • Save west-facing 7th Heaven for the afternoon on a firm sunny day, but ski it immediately at opening on a soft-snow day.2816

    A February 2025 r/Whistler thread on must-ski runs and the January 2026 r/skiing thread above both note that afternoon sun can soften 7th Heaven's west-facing groomers, while fresh snow and its accessible blue alpine terrain make it one of Blackcomb's largest lift queues.

  • On a fresh morning, bypass Harmony laps and take the high traverse from Burnt Stew toward Symphony to reach Rhapsody Bowl and its groomers near opening.1727

    The February 2026 r/Whistler pro-tips thread and the snowHeads best-runs thread both recommend this traverse for early tracks before Symphony's queue builds, and note it requires keeping enough momentum through the traverses.

  • Use Harmony's Little Whistler, Low Roll and Boomer Bowl to select a steeper or mellower line without leaving the same zone.29

    A March 2026 r/Whistler thread ranking Whistler's black runs highlights these as unusually adjustable within one zone, while cautioning that exposed Harmony is a poor choice in wind or flat light.

  • When cloud obscures the alpine, lap Garbanzo via Dave Murray Downhill into Bear Paw, or move to Blackcomb's Catskinner and Easy Out terrain.2730

    A snowHeads thread and a January 2025 r/Whistler first-time-visit thread both point to these tree-lined areas for visual reference and shelter when cloud closes in; Catskinner's higher elevation also tends to hold better snow than many lower Whistler runs.

  • Buy an Epic or Edge product before its seasonal sales cutoff rather than expecting to buy a multi-day pass after arriving.31

    An r/Whistler thread in February 2026 records a visitor who missed the cutoff finding only roughly C$300 day tickets left; replies in the same thread suggested Buddy Tickets at about half the window rate, subject to the passholder's activation requirements.

  • Prebook rentals online and pick them up the previous afternoon; compare Spicy Sports with appointment or delivery services such as Black Tie.26

    A February 2026 r/Whistler thread on rentals reports advance online discounts of up to 30 percent, describes Spicy Sports as inexpensive, and notes that appointment or delivery services such as Black Tie can avoid both the shop queue and the transport errand.

  • Pack lunch and use the Roundhouse, Rendezvous or Glacier Creek, which have seating and microwaves for outside food.32

    A January 2026 r/Whistler thread on lunch breaks says the Roundhouse, Rendezvous and Glacier Creek have seating and microwaves for outside food, but that Chic Pea and Crystal Hut are too small for it; the same thread notes weekend indoor seating fills up resort-wide around lunch.

  • For a group or condo stay, buy the main groceries in Vancouver or at Squamish Walmart and use Fresh St. Market only for convenient village top-ups.3334

    A December 2024 r/Whistler thread on a first Whistler timer priced Fresh Tracks near US$18 with a C$15 food voucher and a 25-45 minute head start, while the February 2026 pro-tips thread argues Whistler's early powder gets tracked out too fast to justify it; check the current price and capacity before buying.

  • Do not force both mountains into a one-day visit unless the Peak 2 Peak ride or a visible weather advantage is itself a priority.3637

    A November 2025 r/skiing thread on Whistler advice and an undated snowHeads thread on the Peak 2 Peak Gondola disagree here: some regulars call the crossing wasted ski time and recommend one mountain per day, while others value the roughly 11-minute ride because descending to the village and re-uploading takes closer to 30 minutes.

  • Do not ski to Whistler Village in the middle of the day merely to explore it or change areas.38

    A December 2023 r/Whistler thread of top tips says the lower runs into the village funnel together into a fresh upload queue, and recommends staying at mid-mountain until the final descent unless snow or a lift disruption makes the Peak 2 Peak unsuitable.

  • Snowboarders who cannot preserve speed on narrow flats should favour Blackcomb and avoid committing to Symphony via Burnt Stew.3940

    A March 2025 r/Whistler thread for first-timers and a January 2026 thread on Upper Peak to Creek both describe Burnt Stew, the sole normal exit from Symphony, as miserable for less confident riders, and say Harmony, Symphony and the Peak-to-Creek runout all demand deliberate speed onto flat cat tracks.

  • Check the grooming report before Peak to Creek, ski Upper Peak to Creek early, and escape onto Highway 86 or toward Lower Dave Murray if the lower section looks poor.4117

    A March 2024 r/Whistler thread on Peak to Creek's difficulty and the February 2026 pro-tips thread both warn that Lower Peak to Creek is often left ungroomed and can turn into kilometres of bumps or choppy snow, with a flat, tiring exit on a snowboard; both recommend skiing it early rather than saving it for tired legs.

  • Do not assume a green Whistler ski-out is comfortable beginner terrain; learn on Emerald or Catskinner and download if exhausted.30

    A January 2025 r/Whistler thread for first-time visitors warns that Whistler's green ski-outs can be narrow escape routes or sustained cat tracks rather than gentle beginner terrain, and describes the crowded Olympic-area descent late in the day as particularly hazardous; it recommends learning on Emerald or Catskinner and downloading if exhausted.

  • Judge rain days by the freezing level and lift elevations, not by precipitation in the village.42

    A March 2026 r/Whistler thread, posted with a photo of rain in the village while it snowed on the summits, illustrates the point directly: a freezing level around 1,900 m leaves snow near the summits but rain around lift bases near 1,600 m, producing repeated wet chair rides rather than a clean powder day.

  • When wind, fog or avalanche control shuts the alpine, immediately work lower Garbanzo, Excelerator or tree-lined Crystal laps instead of joining the mid-mountain holding queues.4344

    January and February 2026 r/Whistler storm reports describe only one-third to one-half of normal vertical available when the alpine stayed closed, and say sheltered lower lifts can still hold soft snow while everyone else waits above.

  • After heavy loading, start on Blackcomb if access to alpine terrain matters more than specific Whistler runs.45

    A March 2026 r/Whistler thread on a hypothetical powder day at Creekside cites local patrol discussion saying Blackcomb historically opens first because its avalanche-control routes are less complex, though severe loading can keep both mountains' alpine closed regardless.

  • Avoid exposed 7th Heaven and Symphony in whiteout conditions and carry a genuine low-light lens for Whistler's frequent fog.4647

    A January 2025 r/Whistler guide thread and an August 2023 r/skiing thread both warn against exposed 7th Heaven and Symphony in whiteout conditions and recommend a genuine low-light lens for Whistler's frequent fog, naming Crystal as useful on hardpack and in poor visibility and Catskinner for wind protection and tree contrast.

  • Do not follow old or unmarked lines away from Lower Peak to Creek toward Cheakamus.48

    A January 2026 r/Whistler thread asking about unmarked trails off Peak to Creek warns that some map-like traces near Lower Peak to Creek toward Cheakamus are abandoned former runs or bike trails, and that a wrong turn can end above cliffs or require an exit of several hours with no cellular service.

  • For a first Spanky's Ladder visit, go in clear visibility with someone who knows the Gemstone Bowls and choose Spanky's Shoulder into lower Ruby before considering Diamond or Sapphire.4950

    A March 2025 r/Whistler thread and a 2006 TGR Forums thread on Spanky's Ladder both recommend Spanky's Shoulder into lower Ruby as the simplest entrance for a first visit, and warn that Sapphire's entrances can involve exposure, rock-dependent straight-lines or mandatory air, becoming high-consequence terrain very quickly.

  • Never cross a sign stating closure for avalanche danger, even if the run appears groomed or its lift status looks inconsistent.51

    A January 2026 r/Whistler thread about a temporary Symphony Express closure clarifies that lift status and terrain status are tracked separately at Whistler Blackcomb; the exceptional lower-Symphony sign referred only to a patrol sweep, not permission to cross an avalanche closure.

  • Do not treat the Flute backcountry gate as a casual loop back to Symphony.52

    A 2020 r/Whistler thread on backcountry touring off Flute Bowl explains that once past the boundary toward Musical Bumps, the return means skinning back toward Lesser Flute or committing to the long Singing Pass exit, and explicitly advises against taking avalanche-untrained beginners there.

Questions

Are Whistler and Blackcomb actually one ski area?

Yes. They are two separate mountains joined at the alpine by the Peak 2 Peak Gondola, opened in 2008, and sold on a single lift ticket. Our own routing measurement finds one dominant connected network spanning both mountains, 307.5 km of piste and 86.5 km of lift line, rather than two areas that merely share a ticket.53

How big is Whistler Blackcomb, and how is the terrain split?

The operator counts 8,171 skiable acres and more than 200 marked runs, split 20% easiest, 35% more difficult, 25% most difficult and 20% experts only by its own four-tier system. Skiresort.com's conversion to piste kilometres gives 200 km, split 40/110/50 km easy/intermediate/difficult. Our own measurement of the OpenStreetMap network for the connected sector finds 307.5 km of marked piste.123

What is the highest point you can actually ski to at Whistler Blackcomb?

2,284 m, at the top of Blackcomb's Showcase T-bar near the Horstman Hut, per the operator's own figures. Blackcomb's true summit is higher, 2,444 m, but sits inside permanently closed terrain outside lift access; Whistler Mountain's true summit, 2,182 m, is lower than Blackcomb's lift-served top. Our own routing graph's highest recorded point, 2,372 m, sits above every reported lift-top figure, consistent with short hike-to glacier terrain rather than an error.143

Is Whistler Blackcomb good for beginners?

There are dedicated learning zones with magic carpets and slow chairs at the base of both Whistler and Blackcomb, and the operator grades a fifth of its acreage easiest. The mountain is nonetheless large enough to disorient a genuine first-timer, so staying inside the marked learning zones rather than exploring is the realistic plan for the first day or two.14

What does a lift ticket cost at Whistler Blackcomb, and is it on the Epic Pass?

Yes, Whistler Blackcomb is on Vail Resorts' Epic Pass, priced in US dollars at US$1,051 for an adult for 2025/26 with unlimited, unrestricted access. Single-day tickets have no fixed rate: the operator sells them on a fully dynamic, date-based scale, and an aggregator's cross-check for the same season put an adult day ticket between roughly CA$150 and CA$199 depending on the date.102

Did the 2010 Winter Olympics happen at Whistler, and is anything left to see?

Whistler Mountain hosted alpine skiing for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics and Paralympics, and the Whistler Sliding Centre, on Blackcomb, hosted bobsleigh, luge and skeleton. The Sliding Centre still operates as Canada's national training centre for sliding sports and runs public bobsleigh and skeleton rides; the 2010 Games are also where Georgian luger Nodar Kumaritashvili was killed during an Olympic training run.553

Does it really rain at the bottom while it snows higher up?

Yes, often enough that locals check the freezing level rather than trusting a single village forecast. Whistler Village sits at 675 m, low enough that a warm Pacific storm can bring rain to the base while the same system drops snow a few hundred vertical metres higher on the mountain; this coastal pattern is a genuine trade-off against Whistler Blackcomb's otherwise heavy snowfall, averaging 10.9 m a year at lift-served elevation.89

What is the longest run at Whistler Blackcomb, and how steep is it on average?

Our own measurement of the routing graph finds a 14.1 km longest continuous descent, the longest run of linked pistes that never rides a lift, with 1,709 m of vertical, the longest recorded on any resort on this site so far. The network's length-weighted average gradient is 24%, and 69% of it faces north, northeast or northwest, both of which help explain why the snow here tends to hold well once it falls.3
