For the resort's standout long groomer, start at the top of the Alpine T-Bar and follow Blue Sapphire all the way to Gem Lake Express.¹⁴

After Black Forest's obvious trees track out, hunt comparable glades around Ridge Rocket or Gem Lake rather than continuing to compete there.²⁵²⁴

Use the Alpine T-Bar, not Powder Chair, when you want to enter Powder Bowl from above Powder Easy Out.¹⁴

Do not assume every advertised ski-in/ski-out property has equivalent access: avoid Snow Pines for village convenience and prefer the upper or central village when quick lift access matters.²⁰

The May 2026 r/kelowna thread above says Snow Pines can mean a long walk to amenities, and that lower-village guests must descend to Happy Valley, remove skis and ride Lara's Gondola to reach most of the hill, a morning bottleneck upper-village lodging avoids.

Do not write off all of Gem Lake merely because its summit is fogged: assess whether Blue Sapphire and Kalina's Rainbow remain visible below the upper towers.¹⁶

The January 2025 Liftlines trip report above found dense fog beginning only around towers 21-24 on Gem Lake, with the long lower groomers on Blue Sapphire and Kalina's Rainbow still empty and worthwhile, though reaching them still meant crossing the obscured upper section.

Save Falcon, Cliff and the upper Gem terrain for the clearest forecast window rather than assigning them to a fixed itinerary day.³⁴¹⁵

A December 2024 r/kelowna thread comparing SilverStar and Big White places the best clear-day terrain around Falcon Bowl, Cliff, Saddle, East Peak and Upper Gem, while the thread above separately flags Gem and Falcon as especially vulnerable to wind and poor visibility.

Do not descend below Cliff Chair toward East Peak's lower exit unless accompanied by someone who knows the flagged ski-out and everyone has current avalanche training and rescue equipment.¹⁵³⁵

Treat the backside of Gem as a real tour, not lift-served sidecountry: carry skins and navigation and evaluate wind slabs before crossing the boundary.³⁶³⁷

A March 2011 Newschoolers thread describes complex lee and cross-loading with unsupported wind-slab pockets behind Gem, and a January 2025 r/kelowna thread on the resort's out-of-bounds terrain describes an exit involving roughly two kilometres and 15-40 minutes of travel before re-entering near Moonlight Run.

In low-snow or early-season tree skiing, watch for open creeks in the lower, lightly travelled glades.³⁸

A November 2023 r/skiing thread on conditions specifically reports open water holes in flat, lightly travelled lower glades, where deeper surrounding snow can disguise the edges.

Ski Gem and Powder glades with a close partner who keeps visual contact rather than regrouping only at the chair.³⁶

The same March 2011 Newschoolers thread records a fatal tree-well incident in the Gem area and stresses that rescue is unlikely for a lone skier beyond the boundary, given the terrain's light snow and dense tree skiing.
