Keystone is one lift-linked, one-ticket ski area across three peaks, Dercum Mountain, North Peak and the Outback, plus the Bergman, Erickson and Independence bowls above them: our own graph puts 105.8 of its 106.6 measured piste km in a single connected component. That measurement sits close to the app's own corpus figure of 113 km for this graph and well below skiresort.com's marketed 135 km. Colorado's Kids Ski Free program and the state's largest night-skiing operation set it apart from its Summit County neighbors more than the terrain does, which is mostly intermediate cruising.12345

The operator's own mountain-info page gives a base of 9,280 ft (2,829 m) and a summit of 12,408 ft (3,782 m), a 3,128 ft (953 m) vertical rise; those are the figures used here. Two other numbers appear elsewhere and are close without matching: the Bergman Express six-pack, Keystone's newest lift, tops out around 12,300 ft (3,749 m) per trade coverage of its 2023 opening, which is within a few meters of the app's own corpus figure of 3,747 m for this graph, and skiresort.com separately measures a 3,743 m summit. The gap between the lift's own top station and the operator's marketed summit is the short hike into Independence Bowl above it; our own routing graph, which includes traced hike-to lines, finds a highest node at 3,806 m, a little above even that.

Marketed vs measuredKeystone's own mountain-info page publishes acreage and trail counts (3,149 acres, 140 trails) rather than a running-length total, split 12% beginner, 39% intermediate and 49% advanced. Skiresort.com's cross-check converts that into 135 km of piste (25 km easy, 65 km intermediate, 45 km difficult), plus a separate 100 km of "ski routes" it attributes mostly to the high-alpine bowls; that second figure is unusually large next to the graph's own network and could not be independently corroborated, so it is reported here without endorsement. Skiresort's percentage split (19/48/33) also differs sharply from the operator's own (12/39/49), most likely because Keystone's own rating folds its many blue-black "more difficult" groomers into "advanced" while skiresort counts them as intermediate. Our own measurement of the connected routing graph finds 106.6 km of piste, 105.8 km of it in the single component that spans Dercum Mountain, North Peak, the Outback and the bowls: about 21% below skiresort's marketed 135 km, in the range of the marketed-versus-measured gap seen elsewhere on this site, and about 6% below the app's own corpus figure of 113 km for this graph, comfortably inside the tolerance seen at the clean sibling resorts measured this way.

The operator's count of 21 is 2 gondolas (River Run, Outpost), 4 high-speed six-packs (Bergman Express, Peru Express, Montezuma Express, Ruby Express), 3 high-speed quads (Santiago Express, Summit Express, Outback Express), the fixed-grip Wayback quad, the fixed-grip Ranger triple, the fixed-grip Discovery and A-51 doubles, and 8 carpets and people movers. Our own routing graph, ingested independently, tracks 20 lift lines rather than 21, matching the app's own corpus figure for this graph; every named chair and gondola in it, A-51, Bergman Express, Discovery, Montezuma Express, Outback Express, Outpost Gondola, Peru Express, Ranger, River Run Gondola, Ruby Express, Santiago Express, Summit Express and Wayback, is a real Keystone lift, with none belonging to a neighboring resort. The one-lift gap is almost certainly the tubing-hill carpet, which is not a ski lift and would not be expected in a routing graph built for skiing.3

Vail Resorts prices Keystone entirely by date, with no fixed walk-up rate. Trade coverage of the 2025/26 season put the peak-day walk-up adult rate at $292 and skiresort.com's cross-check put a comparable child rate at $190; both move with demand and are set well in advance for the highest-demand dates, and buying online ahead of the day is materially cheaper than either figure.

Keystone sits on US-6 in Summit County, about 70 miles (113 km) west of Denver: take I-70 west to the Silverthorne/Dillon exit (205), then US-6 east through Dillon to Keystone. Colorado's Traction Law, in force September 1 to May 31, requires all-wheel or four-wheel drive with winter-rated tires, or chains, over Vail Pass and the Eisenhower-Johnson tunnel.

Guide
Keystone is one lift-linked, one-ticket ski area on three peaks: Dercum Mountain at the front, North Peak behind it, and the Outback beyond that, with the Bergman, Erickson and Independence bowls sitting above all three. Our own graph of the ski network finds 105.8 of its 106.6 measured piste km in a single connected component, and every named lift in it, from River Run Gondola at the base to Bergman Express at the top, is a real Keystone lift rather than a neighboring resort's name bleeding into the data. That single-component evidence is the basis for treating Keystone as one ski area on this page, rather than splitting it the way a lift union spread across separately-ticketed mountains would need to be split.
Three peaks, back to front
Dercum Mountain is the front sector reached directly from the River Run and Mountain House bases, with the long green Schoolmarm, at 3.5 miles the operator's own longest run, descending its full width. North Peak sits behind it, reached by the Outpost Gondola or the Santiago and Summit Express chairs, and is where the operator's own dining venues, Alpenglow Stube and Der Fondue Chessel, sit at The Outpost. The Outback is the furthest sector, wooded and ungroomed in patches, with the fixed-grip Wayback chair as its only lift-served way back toward North Peak; several forum trip reports single out the Outback's tree runs, Porcupine, Wolverine, Wildfire and Pika, as the resort's most dependable off-piste snow.317
The bowls, and what lift service actually reaches
Above the three peaks sit the Bergman, Erickson and Independence bowls, high-alpine terrain the operator markets as more than 1,000 acres combined. The Bergman Express six-pack, opened for the 2023/24 season, put a lift under Bergman and Erickson bowls for the first time; Independence Bowl remains hike-to only. A January 2026 r/COsnow thread on Bergman Bowl's opening for that season found exposed rocks, sticks and stumps under a shallow early-season base, with the limited soft snow tracked out within about an hour, a reminder that an open bowl is a coverage report rather than a promise of clean skiing.38
Mostly intermediate, with the advanced share concentrated at the back
The operator's own difficulty split, 12% beginner, 39% intermediate and 49% advanced, puts Keystone's marketed terrain more toward advanced than skiresort.com's independent read of 19% easy, 48% intermediate and 33% difficult; the two most likely disagree over where to place Keystone's many blue-black "more difficult" groomers, which the operator's own three-tier system has nowhere else to put. Our own routing measurement finds a 26% length-weighted average gradient across the whole network, and only 17% of it reachable from base without leaving an easy run, a genuinely low share for a resort Colorado markets as beginner-friendly.321
Colorado's largest night-skiing operation
Keystone runs lit skiing out of River Run to 19:00 on Fridays and Saturdays from Thanksgiving through late March, plus the holiday period and select Sundays, more nights than any other Colorado resort. It is not the whole mountain: recent seasons have limited it to a Dercum Mountain package around Schoolmarm, without North Peak, the Outback or a guaranteed terrain-park session, and a January 2025 r/COsnow thread asking whether it gets crowded found consistently small crowds and lift lines under five minutes, useful for extending a day rather than covering much ground. The surface is generally the day's skied-off snow rather than a fresh regroom, so a clear lens and sharp edges matter more than they would for a daytime lap.91011

There is no passenger rail into Keystone. The fare-free Summit Stage bus connects Keystone to Dillon, Silverthorne, Frisco and Breckenridge; Bustang and private shuttle operators run from Denver International Airport, a journey of roughly 1.5 to 2 hours outside storms and peak traffic.

On weekend mornings at River Run, walk past the gondola and load Summit Express at opening, because skiers reported roughly five-minute chair waits while the gondola stayed busy until about 10:00–10:30.1920
A January 2024 r/COsnow thread on Keystone's weekend lift lines found this pattern, and a February 2025 r/COsnow thread on a Saturday's conditions confirmed it; the advantage disappears when Summit Express is down, which can also worsen parking-shuttle delays and gondola queues.

Ski Mozart immediately after opening, then use the Outpost Gondola to reach North Peak later rather than returning to the connector a January 2025 r/skiing thread found scraped and icy by about 09:30.1621
Mozart is narrow and steep in places and carries nearly everyone skiing from Dercum Mountain toward the backside, so its pleasant window can be only about an hour.

A January 2023 trip report on the Liftlines forum found the access trails toward North Peak and the Outback at their best first thing, before heavy through-traffic scraped them, and considered the Outback Keystone's most dependable snow zone.

For a quieter first lift, start from Mountain House on Peru Express and ski Silver Spoon toward Montezuma instead of joining the River Run rush.2324
A January 2020 r/skiing post described this as an extra opening run with historically smaller crowds, and an April 2026 r/COsnow trip report ('Keystone Delivered') still favored parking at Peru for early turns.

On a busy weekend, either reach River Run by about 07:30 or drive directly to Powerline instead of sitting in the River Run entrance queue and then being diverted there.2627
Commenters on the January 2025 r/COsnow thread "Keystone Parking Nightmare" said River Run traffic was diverted around 75% occupancy during the 2024-25 season, and a same-month "Keystone Parking Status" thread corroborated it; reports were inconsistent and the policy is season-specific, so check current parking information before relying on it.

Arrive at River Run already dressed and ready to ski rather than carrying boot bags in search of a conventional base lodge.26

Do not treat Gateway Mountain Lodge as effortless walk-to-lift lodging in winter unless you have checked the path conditions.30
A July 2025 r/COsnow thread on Gateway Mountain Lodge estimated 10-15 minutes to River Run on foot, but said plowed snow can bury the obvious path; the same thread reported an overnight ski check near the gondola at about $8, avoiding carrying skis each way.

When the Outback is tracked, return to North Peak and investigate Geronimo and the less-obvious glades instead of following the crowd back outward.731

Questions
How many piste kilometers does Keystone have?
Skiresort.com measures 135 km of marked piste (25 km easy, 65 km intermediate, 45 km difficult), plus a separate 100 km of high-alpine ski routes it could not corroborate independently. Our own measurement of the connected routing graph finds 106.6 km, close to the app's own corpus figure of 113 km for this network and about 21% below skiresort's marketed total, a gap in line with the usual difference between a marketed centre-line figure and a measured one.21
Is Keystone good for beginners?
It has real strengths for families, including Kids Ski Free for children 12 and under on any two-night direct booking and a dedicated summit learning area that lets a new skier download the gondola rather than finishing the full 3.5-mile Schoolmarm run. But our own routing measurement finds only 17% of the network reachable from base without leaving an easy run, a low share for a resort commonly described as Colorado's beginner mountain, and several forum threads warn that Schoolmarm itself carries fast mixed traffic that runs against its green rating.14375
Does Keystone still run night skiing, and how much of the mountain does it cover?
Yes: Keystone runs Colorado's largest night-skiing operation, lit skiing out of River Run to 19:00 on Fridays and Saturdays from Thanksgiving through late March, plus the holiday period and select Sundays. It covers a limited Dercum Mountain package around Schoolmarm rather than North Peak or the Outback, crowds and lift lines are consistently small, and the surface is usually the day's skied-off snow rather than a fresh regroom.910
How do you get to Keystone from Denver?
About 90 miles (145 km) by road, commonly quoted at 1 hour 45 minutes outside storms and peak traffic: take I-70 west to the Silverthorne/Dillon exit, then US-6 east through Dillon. There is no passenger rail; Bustang and private shuttles run from Denver International Airport, and the fare-free Summit Stage connects Keystone to Dillon, Silverthorne, Frisco and Breckenridge.3
What does a day ticket at Keystone cost?
Keystone prices entirely by date with no fixed walk-up rate. Trade coverage put the 2025/26 peak-day adult rate at $292 and skiresort.com's cross-check put a comparable child rate at $190; both are set well ahead of the highest-demand dates, and buying online in advance is materially cheaper than either figure. The Epic Pass, at $1,051 for 2025/26, includes Keystone and 41 other Vail Resorts mountains with no blackout dates.62
Is Keystone one connected ski area, or several linked mountains sold on one ticket?
One connected area. Our own routing graph finds 105.8 of its 106.6 measured piste km in a single component spanning Dercum Mountain, North Peak, the Outback and the bowls above them, and every named lift in that graph, including River Run Gondola, Outpost Gondola, Montezuma Express, Peru Express, Santiago Express, Bergman Express and Wayback, is a real Keystone lift rather than a neighboring resort's name appearing by error.1
What is the Bergman Bowl expansion, and can you ski all of it?
Bergman, Erickson and Independence bowls are high-alpine terrain above North Peak that Keystone markets at more than 1,000 acres combined. Bergman opened for hike-to skiing in 2022, and the Bergman Express six-pack, opened for 2023/24, put lift service under Bergman and Erickson bowls for the first time; Independence Bowl remains hike-to only. Coverage depends heavily on natural snowfall: a January 2026 report from Bergman Bowl's opening found exposed rocks and stumps under a shallow early-season base.3458
